Women empowerment has always been one of the core focus areas of URIDA. We believe that empowering women economically, socially, and educationally is the key to building strong families and self-reliant communities. Over the years, the organization has quality of life of women belonging to economically weaker sections, marginalized communities, Scheduled Castes, minorities, and other vulnerable groups.
URIDA has been actively working with women residing in remote rural villages as well as urban slums across different states of India. Through a dedicated team of field coordinators, community mobilizers, and social workers, the organization identifies women in need and provides them with the necessary support, guidance, and opportunities to become financially independent and socially empowered.
Our women empowerment initiatives focus on improving livelihoods, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing awareness of legal and social rights, improving access to government welfare schemes, and strengthening community participation. We work closely with local communities, government departments, and corporate partners to ensure sustainable development and long-term impact.
Some of our major interventions include:
- Formation and strengthening of Self Help Groups (SHGs)
- Livelihood generation through vocational and skill development programmes
- Entrepreneurship development and market linkage support
- Financial literacy and digital literacy programmes
- Adult education and functional literacy
- Legal awareness and gender sensitization programmes
- Health, nutrition, sanitation and menstrual hygiene awareness
- Facilitation for documentation related to various Government welfare schemes
- Awareness on women rights, domestic violence prevention and child protection
- Leadership development and community participation initiatives
Care and Support Centre for Women
URIDA operates a Care and Support Centre for Women at Kakrola, South West Delhi, with the objective of creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for economically disadvantaged women. The centre provides free vocational training in garment manufacturing, stitching, tailoring, embroidery and apparel production, enabling women to acquire industry-relevant skills and become financially self-reliant.
